Bollywood drama movie ‘Sanjana’ earned Rs 0.006 crore total worldwide box office in two weeks. The Hindi film, which hit screens on 19th January 2018, had one week to showcase better performance on Indian box office. After one week, much awaited Hindi movie ‘Padmavati’ had a worldwide release. The epic film acquired strong dominance in the theatres and affected the performance of all other films.
Hindi film ‘Sanjana’ registered a business of Rs 0.001 crore in the opening weekend. Though there wasn’t a tough box office competition for the film, it did not receive huge response from audience in the cinema halls. Adjacently released Bollywood movies also faced similar situations as the leading actors in those films had no huge fan following in India.
Shooting of ‘Sanjana’ film was completed in India. Producers and director of the movie did not work hard on promoting the film. Thus, the Bollywood movie remained unnoticed in major part of the industry. Filmmakers might had predicted that their film won’t perform well against Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’. However, their predictions were proven false when their film earned an amount of Rs 0.006 crore in 14 days.
Filmmakers didn’t focus primarily on promoting their movie on wider platform. That’s what the reason why the film could not catch the attention of huge audience on the day of its release. Performance of the movie did not grow in weekend as the theatre occupancy remained stagnant throughout initial days. Weekend days could not help the film in taking the earnings to the next level.
At the end of first week, Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone starrer ‘Padmavati’ received grand welcome in the cinema halls and multiplexes located at various mega cities in the country. Although the movie faced ban in four major states of India, performance of the film did not face any huge impact of its pre-release controversy. Earning more than Rs 250 crore, the Bollywood film ranked higher in the list of highest grosser movies of year 2018.
