Lohitaksha

October 23, 2026, marks the release of the first Bollywood crime thriller, Lohitaksha, directed by Bhupindarra. The film is based on three interlocking stories with a common setting of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar. It stars Siddhant Issar, Apsara Rani, and Kamlesh Sawant in the primary roles. This thriller is a unique combination of various aspects of life such as lust, revenge, and abuse in the social media era, and its impact on modern relationships. It also captures the mystery of a series of heinous crimes in the context of the socio-psychological status of the characters.

Issar makes a stellar debut in Bollywood by playing an interesting and dark character inspired by Bale’s character in the film American Psycho. Rani has played her character’s vulnerable nature to the fullest extent, and Sawant is at his intense best in the role of the investigator. Odisha provides the setting for the film, and the film has also achieved the distinction of being the first feature length film in Hindi to be entirely shot in the state.

The psychological and crime procedural elements that Bhupindarra incorporates are perfectly captured by Sarada Krushna Sahoo with her gritty cinematography and the audience reactions from early showings are praising his work. Even the pacing of the first half, though slightly inconsistent, is better appreciated with the twists that come along at the end of the second half. At two hours and thirteen minutes, the film is definitely worth sitting through for the twists alone.
